We are a democratic school offering a truly unique education for kindergarden through high school age children in Western North Carolina. Our philosophy is based on that of the forty-year old Sudbury Valley School in Massachusetts and is shared by over 30 other schools worldwide.
A Sudbury education looks at the big picture of what makes people happy and successful in their lives. Our school is therefore designed to support the development of confidence, independence, self-motivation, persistence, and responsibility. Our philosophy is sometimes known as integral education because at this school, learning is integrated with real life.
Here, students enjoy total intellectual freedom as they create their own curriculum based on their interests and passions. They learn to exercise their rights and responsibilites as members of a democracy. Most importantly, they have the time and space to discover who they are and who they want to become.
